Slate Chippings are very adaptable and can be just what you need to finish off your outdoor space.
Whether you hate gardening and need something to keep those irritating weeds at bay, or if you take pride in your green area and are thinking of a swanky new look, then our slate chippings could be exactly what you're looking for.
Advantages:
- Slate is very durable, so you know you are getting something that lasts.
- Chippings are low maintenance and once laid, they do not need much after care.
- They have a shiny hue when they're wet, as water highlights the glossiness of the slate
Garden paths, for instance, can be made from slate chippings rather than using tarmac or concrete. It allows for better drainage, plus it's easier to lay and you don't have the faff nor the cost of the expensive alternatives. If a weed membrane is laid between the layer of chippings, it can reduce weed germination and keep your path looking sleeker than ever.
Planting areas are another example of where slate chippings can be utilised and allow the plants around them to thrive. This is because slate retains small amounts of moisture which helps to lower the temperature of the soil, making it easier for plants to survive in the heat, but also to prevent the spread of weeds.
A further use of slate chippings is that they can be laid as a decorative edge for a pond, water feature or fountain. Their flat shapes with natural hues blend perfectly with the water. You can even use them to create a clean and modern transition between grass and fences.

So what have we learnt so far? Well, there are many uses for slate chippings, especially within your gardening space, but one use we haven't talked about yet is driveways. Gravelling your driveway can do wonders for your property. One thing for sure is that it will be eye catching! As mentioned above, it is more cost effective to lay chippings and allows for better drainage. Tarmac who?
And if you don't have a rottweiler to deter burglars, you have the crunching sound underfoot to alert you to any intruders.
The world of stone chippings is your oyster. But don't be shellfish; please share with us pictures of your projects and don't forget to contact us or visit any of our quarries.
