Following a full-on February, we certainly didn’t slow down. As we start to see more daylight, there is more momentum and orders for slate and aggregates are being fulfilled at a rate of knots. The dial has officially been turned up to 11!
So, here’s a look at what we’ve been up to across our quarries this month.
Quarry Blasts:
This month we carried out three blasts – two in Trevillett and one in Mill Hill. That’s thousands of tonnes of material released from the quarry face in just a matter of moments, all to keep up with demand for our quality slate/aggregates and to ensure we’ve got plenty of stone to screen, crush and saw.
It’s quite satisfying to see solid rock being carefully broken out and knowing it’ll soon be heading off for all sorts of projects. Controlled, precise and very effective… even if it did make for a noisier day in the office.
Weighbridge Almost Up and Running – Mill Hill:
We mentioned last month that the foundations for the new weighbridge at Mill Hill were in place, but we’ve now had the steel platform installed – that’s the part where vehicles will sit whilst being loaded.
The previous weighbridge plates were level with the ground, but this caused many issues. When the weather was particularly wet (which, let’s face it, is most of the time down in Devon), the pit housing the scales below ground would flood. This resulted in inaccurate readings and sometimes, it wouldn’t even work at all!
The new setup however, is set above ground which will hopefully put an end to those issues once and for all. There are fresh concrete ramps at either end, but we’re not quite finished yet. It won’t be long before vehicles are rolling on it and we can officially retire the troublesome predecessor (and we won’t miss it).
Trebarwith and Trevillett: Steady as ever
Down at Trebarwith and Trevillett, it’s been business as usual – in the best possible way.
Slate deliveries have been consistently heading out across Cornwall and Devon, with enquiries continuing to roll in.
Looking Ahead:
With the success of the blasts under our belt and the weighbridge well on its way to completion; March has definitely been a month of real progress.
We’re heading into April with plenty lined up, and if the past couple of months are anything to go by, it’s not going to be quiet anytime soon.
Stay tuned…
