July Insight:

We find ourselves at a very busy time of year. Our fantastic stoney products are being collected and delivered left, right and centre. Although there may not be anything to announce, we’ve certainly kept up the pace of recent orders galore.

Behind the scenes…

The recent spell of dry weather has caused excruciating amounts of quarry dust, which we are doing our very best to dampen down. Whilst the dust may be a hindrance, temporarily hiding our slate’s sublime array of colours, it also settles on surrounding roads, vehicles and surfaces. Rest assured, we will continue to damp down the roads and entrances to the quarries to reduce the dust levels for everyone.

Cement Update:

Our newest product at Mill Hill Quarry, plastic bagged cement, has been settling in nicely and we’ve received plenty of interest. One of our lovely loyal customers collected a whole pallet of cement alongside their aggregates!

Slate Chippings Uses:

Now might be an ideal time to mention that our slate chippings are in high demand and that they have many uses such as: gravel for driveways, paths, decorative areas of a garden – the world is your oyster, or in this case, the garden is your snail.

How much material will I need?

That all depends on what you’re building. If you can let us know the measurements, we can calculate the approximate amount of stone you’ll need.

Can I pick a couple of stones?

You can indeed! Selecting your own stones is exactly how you can ensure that you are getting the stones you want, with as little wastage as possible.

What type of stone do you sell?

The only type of stone we extract from all three of our quarries is slate. We can source other types of stone should you be looking for something else, though we could not think of anything better than slate – perhaps slightly biased.

What size is your gravel?

We produce slate chippings that are either 25mm or 40mm in size. The 25mm are a more decorative product whereas the 40mm is more suited for drainage, but equally can be used for decorative purposes. Either size will look spectacular once laid.
