After months of rain, the ground is truly wet wet wet… it’s a sweet little mystery as to how we can go about drying up the land. Well, spring offers the perfect window to improve drainage and ground stability by using Quarry Aggregates.
Spring has long been associated with fresh starts. As the days grow longer, the ground will start to recover from winter, making it the ideal time to tackle any projects you’ve been putting off that improve your land, garden or construction site. Why not prepare the foundations of an upcoming build, or treat yourself to a new layer of gravel on your driveway? Mmmm, it’s the little things in life…
Certain Quarry Aggregates are excellent for drainage, helping moisture disperse into the ground. This prevents standing water, sodden lawns and more importantly… muddy boots! Materials such as our 803 Sub-Base and Slate Chippings are prime examples of products that can manage excessively wet areas.
There are several signs that your land could benefit from Quarry Aggregates this spring, such as troublesome puddles and sinking paving/driveways. As we also start to venture back out into our gardens, the last thing anyone wants is their feet being submerged in waterlogged ground. That’s why now is the time to do some ‘spring cleaning’ for your land.
When preparing your site, we suggest assessing any drainage issues and removing saturated soil where necessary. To stabilise the ground and create a solid foundation, our 803 Sub-Base is a fine choice; made up of stones ranging from 40mm down to dust, which compacts extremely well. From there, you can top it off with our decorative Slate Chippings, which will both look amazing and improve drainage by keeping the water moving.
Looking for something a little different? Whilst aggregates are sublime once laid, another fantastic alternative that combines natural and attractive appearance with strong durability is our Slate Paving.
Slate Paving is incredibly low maintenance when compared to other paving materials and can last for decades with minimal deterioration. This is because Slate is a very dense and strong natural stone, which makes it highly resistant to wear. Paving is not only long-lasting, but also provides good grip underfoot due to its natural texture, making it a safer option for outdoor surfaces that get wet e.g. patios, garden paths and steps.
So, if your ground is still feeling the aftereffects of winter, now is the time to put things right. With the right aggregates or paving, you’ll be set up for a drier and more durable space – ready to enjoy whatever spring brings.
