January Insight:

As we come to the end of January, we thought we’d share a bit of an insight into how the month has been for our slate quarries. Although January is always difficult, it certainly has kept us on our toes.

Supporting Construction and Landscaping:

We supplied and delivered our 803 Sub-Base to a local prestigious landscaper for use in a garden renovation project. From pictures we’ve seen so far, the project is looking amazing and we are always pleased to see our materials being put to good use.

Another order of 4-inch Sawn Facing Stone was signed, sealed and delivered to Bude this month. Our Sawn Facing Stone is cut on the face, ensuring a clean and consistent finish, and is ideal for both structural and decorative applications.

Then there was another order taking our lorry down to St. Austell for delivery of our 4-inch Trebarwith Blue Facing Stone. This facing stone has a natural face, perfect for that authentic slate look, paired with stunning blue tones.

So far this month, we have delivered the following across the southwest from all 3 of our quarries:

Extracting and supplying materials is at the heart of what we do.

Staff Training:

Due to the high demand of aggregates, our office staff at Mill Hill Quarry have stepped up and are now learning to load trailers, tractors and lorries. Neither of them have any previous experience driving quarry machinery or operating loaders, so this is a completely new challenge.

Novices, you might say? We are pleasantly surprised with how well they performed on their first few attempts. Their enthusiasm and willingness to learn is fantastic, and it’s great to see the team broadening their skills to support the business.

Challenging Weather:

As if January isn’t hard enough - the very first week back after Christmas, we had snow and ice. Just what we needed to kick off the new year…not! Unfortunately, the conditions meant that our Lorry was unable to leave the quarry for a few days. Then came the rain, rain and more rain.

Looking Ahead:

Despite the classic January blues – not quite as blue as our slate! It’s been a productive start to the year and we’re looking forward to building on this momentum as we head into February.
